OCMP Glossary
This glossary explains key terms related to OCMP, Wi-Fi, campaigns, and analytics.
Access Point (AP)
A network hardware device that allows Wi-Fi devices to connect to a wired network. An AP typically connects to a router and differs from a hotspot. Within OCMP, access points are linked to locations.
Actionable insights
Recommendations for direct actions based on the analysis of raw data. The dashboard displays actionable insights to help improve initiatives.
Analytics
The discovery, interpretation, and communication of patterns in data. Analytics are used by businesses for decision-making. OCMP conducts analyses such as location analytics and Wi-Fi campaign analyses.
API
An application programming interface is a software intermediary that allows two applications to communicate.
Authentication
The process of verifying the identity of a person or device, for example by entering a username and password to log in to a website.
Visits
In OCMP, visits correspond to devices or persons near the access point with a signal strength greater than 18. Repeated visits within a time frame are counted multiple times.
Blacklisting
Creating a blacklist of persons, countries, or other entities to avoid. In OCMP, MAC addresses and devices can be blacklisted to obtain accurate results.
Browser
A software application for accessing information on the World Wide Web. A browser fetches content from a web server and displays it on the user's device.
Bug
A software error that causes a program or system to produce incorrect or unexpected results or to behave unintentionally.
Campaign
Campaigns are used to create a Wi-Fi onboarding flow for your users. This can be a simple greeting page with a customized background or a full marketing campaign.
Captive portal
A webpage shown to new users of a Wi-Fi or wired network before granting broader access to network resources. Captive portals are often used to present a landing or login page.
Capture rate
The capture rate shows the ratio between the number of visits and the number of passers-by at the selected locations.
Database
An organized collection of data stored and accessed electronically by a computer system.
Average visit frequency
Describes how often visits occur within the Wi-Fi area.
Average visit time
Describes the amount of time a user spent within the Wi-Fi area.
E-mail element
Allows generating leads and storing them securely via Rapidmail. Only people with access to the Rapidmail account can retrieve the leads, which can then be used for marketing activities such as newsletters.
Firewall
A network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on security rules. A firewall forms a barrier between a trusted internal network and an untrusted external network.
Hotspot
A physical location where people can access the internet via a Wi-Fi network. Hotspots are typically created from access points and managed by venue operators.
IP address
A numeric label assigned to each device connected to a network using the internet protocol. It serves host or network interface identification and location addressing.
Location analytics
Within location analytics, locations can be monitored and analyzed. Automated reports can be created to simplify decision-making.
Location groups
Individual locations can be grouped into location groups to simplify analysis.
Locations
Within OCMP, locations can represent branches of a larger organization. Multiple locations can be grouped into a location group. Each location contains access points, multiple campaigns can be displayed at a single location, and opening hours can be applied to specific locations.
Monitoring
Centralized monitoring of the activity status of all devices.
Opening hours
Allows organizations to define opening hours. Devices connecting outside these hours can be excluded, and campaigns can be scheduled based on opening hours.
Passers-by
The number of passers-by depends on the time of day, weather, and other factors. OCMP classifies people as passers-by when they pass an area near or within the site with a signal strength greater than zero.
Real-time data
Real-time data can be analyzed in OCMP for all sites and access points. This includes data about passers-by, visitors, and user numbers.
Splash page
An introductory page that a user sees when visiting your website.
SSID
The technical term for the name of a Wi-Fi network.
Templates
Templates can be created and used in campaign management. Different templates can be selected based on the time of day, the day of the week, or special occasions such as holidays.
User
The system classifies people as users when they are logged in to the Wi-Fi.
Walled garden
An environment that controls user access to web content or services. A walled garden directs navigation to certain areas to allow access to selected content while blocking other content. It is also referred to as a closed platform or ecosystem.
WAN (Wide Area Network)
A telecommunications network that covers a large geographic area. WANs are mainly used for computer networks.
Whitelisting
A cybersecurity list containing only administrator-approved programs and IP or e-mail addresses. Everything not on the list is blocked. OCMP administrators can whitelist certain SSIDs.
Wi-Fi
A wireless network protocol that enables devices to communicate without cables. Wi-Fi requires a device such as a router, phone, or computer to transmit the signal.
Wi-Fi analytics
Allows administrators to analyze campaign performance over a period of time. It supports actions such as creating onboarding processes with multiple elements like images, videos, and surveys. Each element can be analyzed individually within Wi-Fi analytics.
